    CYCA Solas Trusts chairman, Matt Allen, will present a cheque to Volunteer Marine Rescue Whitsunday (VMR) for $35,705 which will be used to purchase two new outboard engines for VMR1, the 9.8 metre Kevlar Cat used by VMR Whitsunday at 10am this Thursday 20 January 2011.

    Barcelona World Race - Michel Desjoyeaux and François Gabart arrived in the commercial port of Recife (Brazil) at 00:30 (local time). The two sailors were towed into port and greeted by Foncia’s shore crew, who are now racing against the clock to repair the boat’s sacrificial bow.

Optimist Nationals 2011 - slow day on Pittwater -Day four.

    After a lay day yesterday, the competition returned today for day four of the 2011 International Optimist Australian Championships on Pittwater, with an overcast day and benign conditions the order of the day at the host club, the RPAYC. Unfortunately for the Open fleet the wind wasn’t as enthusiastic as the competitors, with the forecasted North Easter failing to eventuate and only one race was completed.

    America΄s Cup Regatta Management have announced that John Craig (USA) has been appointed Principal Race Officer of the 34th America΄s Cup. A native Californian, and a resident of San Francisco, Craig will be responsible for conducting the races of the America΄s Cup World Series, the Louis Vuitton Cup and the America΄s Cup Finals.

    The 2010 Rolex Sydney to Hobart yacht race proved the most testing in recent years; more than a third of the fleet retired after being battered by two southern ocean cold fronts while the rest of the fleet went on to sail in fantastic conditions all the way down the Tasman coast.
