With varying wind conditions from force 1 to 6, twenty-one XODs took part in their Autumn Series during October including two visiting boats from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, Chris Caws in Foxglove (X174) and Neil Payne in Quest (X53). But it was Lymington boats that were the victors Ado Jardine in Lucrezia (X140) edging out William Norris in Beatrix (X178) for the top places overall. Wednesday's race sailed in lovely sunshine, a light breeze and a neap tide was won by Rory Paton in Diana (X164) a consistent performer this season and Saturday with more familiar wind and rain by William Norris. In fact it was one of the most successful series for some years, showing that XOD racing is still as many say, the best yacht racing in the Western Solent from gentle family sailors to Olympic hotshots, who are always willing to help. All in classic boats that started in 1911. Overall Results: 1st Lucrezia (X140) A. Jardine 2nd Beatrix (X178) W. Norris 3rd Quest (X53) N. Payne 4th X Ray (X117) R. Balme By Liz Field |
